Midburn Main Installation

This Effigy was be erected on the highest and most central location overseeing the vast Playa at Midburn (Burning Man regional event) which hosted over 10K participants, also from other countries.

The theme of Midburn 2017 is “Lucid Dream”, a phenomenon which occurs while consciously recognizing that we are dreaming while sleeping. At that point or in that place, between reality and dream, we can sense freedom. “Man and Eve” statue captures the journey of two beings, spreading their wings and lifting off the ground to enter that exact moment. They want to set their minds and spirits free. The statue rose to a colossal 45 feet (14 meters) high and had a wingspan of 50 feet (15 meters). The outlines of the effigy were created from over 400 individually designed and hand cut plywood shapes, all connected to the main structural beams.

Constructing such a realistic sculpture on site, where strong winds blow, had it’s cost as it required double the machinery to lift and stabilize the structure and parts as they were being fastened to the main ‘skeleton’ of the the Effigy.
This in turn demanded some extra materials such as wood and screws mostly, the other main expense in this project.
